Yes, I know Hoth is from Star Wars. But, I like the name and my Tau are from an Ice World.

This army is another "Side Project". Every once in a while I'll add something new to it, but it's not a big priority to get it "finished". The biggest probelm for me with the Tau army is I just don't like the chicken leg Crisis Suits. So, I'm converting them using bitz from different anime mech models. The Shas'o was made with parts of a Gundam action figure. I plan to use some Robotech models that are closer to the scale of 40K for my future conversions.

I'm often asked how painted these models and made the snow, so here goes. The models are primed black, and then painted with pure Mithril Silver. That's it. The silver is so shiney that it catches the lights from all angles and it makes it look like there's a lot more to it but there really isn't. I just took my time and painted it as cleanly as possible. When I messed up and painted in the cracks of the armor plates, I just used a .005 micron black pen to trace the cracks and it fixed it all up. The blue is just Enchanted Blue with Ice Blue highlights.

The bases are primed white and painted ice blue. Then I use use a drybrush technique but just not so dry so the paint streaks and I go diagonally down 1 direction with Space wolf Gray and the other way with Skull White. The tops is my usual black Woodland Scenics ballast with a Shadow Gray and Space Wolf Gray drybrush. The snow is made from a mix of 50% baking soda, 25% water and 25% white glue. Just add it in in clumps and let it dry. When it's dry I paint the sides of the base and the snow with the brush-on Gloss Varnish that GW makes. And that's it :)
